Caring for your mat

Properly cared for, your mat will last for many years. Brush or vaccuum it whenever you brush or vaccuum your floor. When washing the floor, remove mat and give it a good shake or beating. Replace when floor is dry. Your mat will need to be washed about once a year. Traditionally, this is done in late spring or summer as the days get longer, warmer and drier. To wash your mat, soak for half an hour in a bath of tepid water and detergent to loosen ingrained dirt. (As with any dyed product, there will be some loss of colour the first few times.)

Scrub along (not against) the stripes, using mild liquid soap (washing up liquid), then rinse well in plenty of water. Let excess water drain off in the bath.

To dry, hang - preferably sideways, so the water runs off along the stripes – or lay out flat. Do not roll or fold the mat when wet.  Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat. Your mat should be dry in a day or two. Now it can be rolled or folded and put away until autumn - or put straight back down, if you prefer.

If in doubt, you can have your mat dry cleaned. Don’t hesitate to email us for more information!
